MEASURING MORE THAN MARKS .

Every teacher gives tests , but have we ever paused to ask : What do our assessments really show? Do they only reflect what learners have memorized for a moment or do they reveal how children think , reason , and connect ideals ?

Under the thematic curriculum, assessment is no longer about filling blanks , it is about capturing the whole child : knowledge, skills , attitudes and creativity .

In the classroom , teachers should reflect on what exactly they are assessing . Are they testing recall , or the ability to connect ideals? For example in a theme like Our Environment, a child may not only name trees but also explain how they provide shade and fruits .At that point , assessment moves beyond memory into real understanding.

We can also make assessment joyful and less frightening. Instead of asking "who knows the correct answer ?" we might ask "who has another idea or what else could we try ?" In this way learners feel free to think widely without free of mistakes .

The thematic curriculum encourages us to see assessment as part of the learning journey , not just the final step .

More practically , hands on activities also provide rich opportunities. In a theme on Food and nutrition, children may classify fruits or prepare a simple salad . As they act , speak and share the teacher observes knowledge, collaboration and creativity coming alive .

Indeed assessment is not a burden but a chance to nurture growth. The real question is ❓

Will our assessment end with numbers on paper or will they inspire the kind of learning that changes lives.
